Rob

I use the tasks list as well, and it works just fine for me. The default tasks layout however is not great for GTD, so I changed it as per the following guide:-

http://www.davidco.com/store/catalog/GTD-and-Outlook-p-16173.php

I find it much easier now.

Great posts that reveals some of the difficulties in GTD. One of the most striking observations is certainly the one of legacy issues on a list. This relates heavily to the granularity you chose for your projects in GTD - something I' am meant to write a blog post on for a while. Essentially you should not have mega projects that last for a long-time. You need to break them into multiple projects that have a smaller set of actions and get done soon (some motivation hidden here for projects that you can mark completed). Larger projects also tend to collect legacy tasks, that will just hang in there and will cause the project to never be completed.

Oh man!!! thankyou Swami for your VERY informative article. I always wondered what I was doing wrong with the se lists...

My favourite technique was write everything i needed to remember down... and then go and play computer games or facebook. lol.

I wonder how much lost productivity can be directly attributed to those systems.

Thanks for posting this -- very timely. I love my GTD system with one exception -- my task list . The process of clearing my desk, identifying all the things to do, etc. goes well. But a week goes by and I find that I have not worked off the task list at all.

My company uses Outlook, so I tend to use the Tasks section. Does anyone suggest another program?

I feel guilty even admitting this...

My list is 12 pages long.
I dread opening it.

Great post. I always have the problem of feeling like I accomplish something just by MAKING the list, then everything actually on the list gets pushed until later. Great tips, can't wait to try them.

My lists tend to be overpopulated. You are absolutely right: if I can only manage scanning the first half of the list, then the first half IS the list.

Looking at my list for today, there's no way I am going to do all of this. Deferring, delegating, and reevaluating need to be done here. I'm on it. :)
