I use a Acer Aspire One with a 9-cell battery. For the last year or so, it's been the most productive piece of technology for the money. Though I did score it, practically bran new on eBay, for about $175.

I use Windows 7 on it. Mostly Google Apps, Tweetdeck and Evernote.

I am not impressed by netbooks anymore. After the tach fanfare was over I got aware that netbooks are slow, old with old operating systems and they require a good amoung of Windows tricks to make them work properly...

I wanted to buy a netbook and had a tough time in deciding whether to go for it or settle for a laptop. The review you provided was very comprehensive and reinforces my initial decision of buying a netbook and preferably HP Mini. It was interesting to also know about your earlier experience as a beta tester for Palm Foleo. I would also like to install Windows 7 on it to run compatible applications. Thank you for the post, it helped me a lot!

I have to say, I also have a HP Mini and at first used it pretty much for just surfing in coffee shops and bed!

However, over the last couple of months, I've been using it more and more, and even though I am very happy with my Vaio, I am seriously thinking of going full-time with the HP Mini, because of its quick boot-up and shut-down time, as well as the mobility issue, which I am a big fan of. Its just so damn small, compared to the Vaio - I love it.

I must say this is a really good review of it, and I like the comparison thing, too. Nice stuff.

Thanks.

Hi Eddie,

I'm actually in the same position now. Since I just installed Windows 7 on my formerly XP laptop, I've enjoyed the new OS so much that I want to put it on the Mini Mi.

I have yet to come across a specific article on installing Windows 7 on the 1000. Gizomodo had a recent post on How to Install Windows 7 On Almost Any Netbook via a flash drive image, but I seem to remember having a couple of questions afterward that kept me from going through with it. The official Mini 1000 forums on Windows 7 installation issues almost exclusively deal with upgrading XP model. The information there is probably useful, but there isn't a no-brainer instruction set available AFAIK.

You should read up on the speed issues with MIE, I believe it appears slower than Ubuntu 9.04 or similar Ubuntu based netbook distros (HP's MIE, Ubuntu Netbook Remix, EasyPeesy etc are all Ubuntu based).
